A little warm on your winter day.

I was looking through old pictures, trying to sort through and better organize..  you know, my idea of fun on a Friday.. and I came across this pic.

sisters

(I edited it a bit, just for the sake of fun.  Kicks and giggles, all that sort of stuff.)

It’s from our one and only camping trip this last August.

It warms me in so many ways..

A special kind of relationship.

Lynn and Ashley have always had a special kind of relationship.  They are like most sisters, get along terrifically one day, not so well the next, sometimes things get violent, but they always come back together at the end of the day, begging to sleep in the same bed, where they giggle and talk, where Lynn reads to Ash.

It’s quite sweet.

Last night, they were too cute swimming together, playing mermaids in the pool, cold, teeth chattering, they decided to get out of the pool and hold hands to jump in together.  They did it many times.

They were just so cute together!

She really loves her!

Ashley is my most hyperactive child.

I hope she keeps her title.  I don’t know what I would do with one more hyper and goofy than she is.

Sometimes, she is downright ridiculous and can be pretty annoying.  I know I love her, but I start to wonder how her friends and sisters feel about her when she gets like this.

I got my answer today, after another typical morning with her, getting her ready for pre-school while she teased Peyton to no end.

I was ready for the break.

It was more than welcome.

I walked her into her class and came back out to the care to see Peyton with some of the biggest tears in her eyes.  One had already spilled over onto her cheek, her chin was quivering.  I asked her what was wrong, she simply answered, “Want Ashley.”

She cried a little, and I felt sad that her most annoying, hyper, big sister was going to be gone, away from her for the next couple of hours, and she was going to miss her.

It was quite the sweetest, most unexpected moment of my day.

I wish I’d had my camera.

We (heart) storms!

storm 008

Last night, we were all snuggled up on the couch, trying to find something to watch after “Spaceballs” had ended, something worthwhile, you know?  And it hit us, it was Thursday night, which means only one thing: The Office.

Or “Michael” as Peyton calls it.

Sadly, and disappointingly, it was a re-run (we were looking forward to something fresh.  We had just watched “Spaceballs” after all ;)..).  But soon enough, there was another of our favorite forms of entertainment upon us.

Lightening!

At first, Merrill believed it to be the light from cars driving on the road outside, but as it became increasingly more intense, we all knew it was more than traffic.

Now weather has been weird, to say the least, around here lately, so as the snow fell all last night and on and off during the day today, we should have been expecting thunder and lightening.

And more snow with it.

We all headed to Lynn’s room to watch the light show unfold, and got a good one!

I am so thankful for these quiet moments we get to share and enjoy as a family.  I am even more thankful that we have groomed the girls to not be afraid of it.

When Lynn was younger than Peyton, she would go nuts over a storm.  One summer night, it was she who woke us up, not the storm.  She was running up and down the hallway, giggling and chanting, “Funder and lie-ning!  Funder and lie-ning!”

It’s just our kind of family fun.  Had it not been so cold outside, we would have been on the porch. :)

The girls decided to sleep all together in Lynn’s room, on their bed made on the floor so they could continue their watch for lightening.  It was quite heartwarming to walk in and see Lynn, reading a book to her sisters with her little lamp on.

I love seeing how close they are!

Good news

I got a phone call today from the doctor’s office.

The swab they took, of Lynn’s throat the other day has no sign of strep in it.

That means things are looking up around here and hopefully the virus is on it’s way out!

We have had “the grumpies” here as I have not let the girls out to play or any friends in to play.

Peyton has been acting like she doesn’t feel too well.  She has had some fun diapers to change, been pretty clingy, and hasn’t been sleeping well.  When all of those factors are added up it equals mom being tired.

Tylenol and her sippy cup are her two best friends, well, after my hip, of course; but tonight she’s been in better spirits.

I am just thankful to have a reliable doctor nearby, the technology that we do to know what’s going on, and that the girls have each other.  They have enjoyed their time in together playing American Girls non stop.

Lynn was actually hoping that there wasn’t any school on Monday..  that is not like her, she loves school!  She must really be loving this time with Ashley!

Lonely..

Not in the picture, obviously.. but lately, Peyton has been expressing her loneliness.
It all began Saturday.. Mer and the girls had a primary activity Saturday morning (sniff.. sniff.. I am not in Primary anymore..) and Peyton was all messed up over it. She would walk into my room, whine, walk into the girls' room and whine, then walk down the hall to the railing overlooking the front room, and whine. This pattern continued until I attempted to put her down for a nap. Shortly thereafter.. Mer and the girls got home. They didn't come inside immediately, Mer shoveled, while the girls played, mitten-less. Ashley soon came inside, sobbing hysterically over the color and condition of her hands.. they were numb and very, very pink. I got her warmed up, hands back to a state with feeling and a healthy pink, and then, when the sobs had ended, I could hear Peyton, shaking the rails of her crib. It's her own little morse code for: "Hey! Mom! I am awake! Get me outta here!!" So, I did, cause I am a cool mom.
As I walked back into my room, Peyton in arms, I say, "Look who's home.." and her arms go up, she starts wriggling herself out of my arms, wanting Ashley, who is waiting with outstretched arms. She walked as fast as her little toddler walk could take her straight to her big sis. They hugged, with Ashley in Peyton's death grip, for quite a while. As Ashley kissed Pey on her little cheek, Pey looked at me with satisfaction. THIS was what she wanted, not a bottle and a nap.
So Monday came. She had Lynn while Ash was gone and Ash while Lynn was gone. Tuesday, no biggie, until Ash went to play with a friend.. Wednesday was the hardest on her I bet.. she just misses them so much when they are not here! So, to fill the void, pass the time while they are gone, she sleeps..
