a chocolatey update.

success!!
(sort of.)
two of my three little ones actually stayed in their own beds the whole night.
(no wakie-uppies.)
i was able to...
sleep..
kind of..
in a bed.
not my bed, mind you..
but peyton at least got the idea that she is to sleep in her own bed, and not mine.
i needed to clarify that in order to earn a candy bar, i would have to be allowed to sleep in my own bed, all night, as well.
the kiddo got half of it!
she woke up "fweaked out", and asked me to snuggle her.
it wasn't her fault that while snuggling, i fell asleep in her bed, and stayed there the rest of the night.
i replenished my cupboards with a variety of candy bars from the fall-apart (aka wal-mart).  all children were paid (with the exception of the youngest, who didn't nap today and fell asleep early).
i think i might just pay myself for surviving yet another night in a twin-sized bed with my littlest who also enjoys kicking the covers off.
yup, mars bar for me indeed!
(moral of the story is: bribery works.)

i am placing all my hopes on candybars.

let me tell you what the nocturnal hours have been like  here:
bedtime.  not always on time, but pjs are put on, teeth brushed, a little girl with longer hair gets it brushed and loosely braided for the night, prayers are said, and three little girls get tucked in their own beds.  sometimes (most times) a second prayer is said with each little girl who is anxious and nervous for what the night will bring to them, all alone in their own little room.  tuck-ins and reassurances are generously given, and then night begins for the parents.
well, the night begins, as do the interruptions from three, nervous little girls.
they are not always all nervous on the same nights, just sometimes.  peyton in the only one who is consistently nervous, and she tells us everyday that she is "grateful when there are no bad dreams".
she usually ends up in our bed with us, after she wakes up crying.
now a bad dream isn't what you expect it to be with this little one.  she had a "really bad one" last week.  you  know what it was about?  she got something stuck in her toe at lake powell and it made a hole in her foot.  but in her little mind, that is awful!
last night, she fell asleep on the couch.  merrill was up late with an uncomfortable cyst swelling in his armpit (remember this?) so we left her there, tucking the other two into bed.  only the oldest of my bunch was worried last night.  bedtime went on for almost 2 hours due to the nerves of this child..
i was later awakened by ashley.
(i am unable to tell you at time, i used to look at the clock when these things would happen, and that is just a bad idea.)
lynn hijacked her bed, kicking her out, and into my bed.  i was all for sleep of any sort, so i welcomed her into my bed.
then peyton arose, crying.  crying and needing to go potty.
after we took a trip to the potty, i went to snuggle her in her bed.  sleeping there until it was time to start our day.
needless to say, i am one tired momma.  so tonight, before our circus of bedtime rituals, to try to insure one good night's sleep, i bribed my children.
"if you can all sleep in your own beds the whole night, i will give you a candy bar."
shall we see how this ends up?
let's do.
but let me say this:  i know it would be more than enough to keep me in my own bed the whole night.

late night/early morning randomness from one tired mom.

i am here, snuggling the world's cutest three yer old, typing one-handed, re-living my days of nursing this same child (but in infant form) and typing one-handedly taking those crazy/stupid facebook quizzes (like the one that told me i was captain kirk type nerd?).

(sshhhh! don't laugh too loud.  she's asleep now.)

the snuggling is a result of "scawy dweams".  she doesn't get past that, or the crying.  we are on night two (or is it three?  wow i am tired.) of this adventure.  all i really can do is snuggle and reassure, and pray.

apparently it is effective.

first thing this morning (like 7:30 this morning, which totally caught me off guard, by the way, mostly because i thought for sure she'd want to sleep in..) she woke me up, told me again about having a scary dream, to which i rather sleepily/grouchily responded, "i know.  that's why i am here, in your bed."  but she also added that being scared is silly because Heavenly Father protects us.

things always look better in the light of a new day, don't they?

You get what you give..

I have discovered the best way to kick off the 30th year of life...
Spending it in a twin size bed with two other small people (making that a total of 3 people in the bed).

my bed buddies

Not so great when my body hurts, due to age (I guess) and genetics.
It all began right after I was ready for bed, in my own, warm cozy bed, ready to drift off, when I think I hear a cry.  I immediately assumed it was Peyton, but it wasn't.
You see, Peyton comes to me.  This cry wasn't coming to me.
It was Ashley.
Now to back up, just a little (okay, try 20+ years), I was a sleep-walker and a sleep-talker.
There are many stories that float around about me and my nocturnal ways.  They are all pretty good, but I feel bad about what kind of things my parents (but mostly mom) had to deal with in the middle of the night.
Some of those things that freaked her out the most, I did while wide awake.
(Sorry mom..  I understand so much better now.)
Ashley, is giving me a taste of my own medicine.
She not only walks and talks in her sleep, she cries.
Inconsolably.
It makes for some exciting (and very frustrating) nights.
I went in a comforted her twice.  Each time, her cries stopped, for a minute.  As soon as I was comfortable again in my own bed, the cries would start up again.  I told myself that she could cry there.  I would stay in my bed.  There was nothing I could do.
The third time, she was not only crying but calling my name as well, and she started talking...  kind of.  So I decided to go to her.
Since only my warm bed was interrupted, not my sleep, I took it all in stride, and had some fun.

"Ashley..  are you okay?"
"Uh-huh.  I need your heeelp.."
"What do you need my help with?"
"Uh-huhhh.."
"Do you need me to tickle you?"
"Uh-huhhh..."
"Do you need me to lick your nose?"
"Uh-huhhhhh..."
Can you guess how this conversation (sort of..) went on?
It covered a wide range of silly activities and a range of bodily functions, all followed with Ashley's response of, "Uh-huhhhh.." .
Finally, all of the silliness (and tickling) had her awake, and she asked if I would come and snuggle with her.
I had to go and get my down blanket (remember MY comfy bed?) and we got right to the snuggling.
I was still asking her questions and I could tell that she was really awake now.  I asked her if she was going to remember this in the morning, and I was a little worried by her answer, "Uh-huh.."
Right after we were settled, Peyton started to cry in her bed.
That is where the third body came into play.
What a way to start your thirtieth year..
My body hurts.

Happy Fourth...

Before you begin your reading of this blog post, keep in mind the state of my mind..
I have had it up to here with many things.. (envision my hand at the level of my eye, which puts it at roughly 4 foot 8; my stature is 5 foot 2 and a half.. don't forget the half.)

1- this mystery illness that has had Ashley being a slightly different version of herself since Monday evening.
2- Peyton's sleep habits. The sleep habit that has her head on top of my own, and her feet in Merrill's face, instead of in her own bed. I have been so sleep deprived, that I usually wake, to find her in our bed, not knowing how or when she got there.
3- Girl hormones. Can't they just learn to get along already?!
4- Fireworks.

My rant today, is addressed to my dear, patriotic neighbors.

Dear Neighbors,
While I too, am ecstatic to be a citizen of this country, I am not ecstatic of the hour in which you choose to set off your celebratory fireworks (both legal and illegal).
I am well aware of the parameters in which we are all allowed to ignite the colorful and loud things made in China, but propose that we limit them to the day of the fourth itself. Why celebrate three days before and three days after the fourth?
Last night, while I was barely awake, trying to enjoy time with my husband, time I wished were alone time ;), I couldn't enjoy it. My 17 month old daughter was tossing and turning, she had stopped honking our noses and repeatedly demonstrating where our eyes were, but she was awake. Not asleep. I will tell you why the sandman wasn't able to take her off to dreamland.. your fireworks. With every "pop" her eyes would pop open themselves, and she would then sit up, then eventually settle down, only to be disturbed by another "pop". Cycle repeats, and I lose it even more.
That was fan-tastic.
It was nearly 11 pm. I was tired.
I still am.
I would like to suggest that we enjoy deploying our fireworks (I have them, I like them too..) on the day of the fourth, during the times that are reasonable... after 8 am to roughly noon-thirty.. a break would then commence for my youngest offspring's nap time, and the lighting of the fireworks my be continued at 3 pm until.. well, I'll be generous and say 11 pm. I think that is reasonable.
Now don't think of me as your neighborhood bitty, think of me as a mother on the brink..
I have no where else to go.
I do not have the desire to infect the rest of the nearby population with Miss Ashley's "mystery illness" (there is no sign of a rash.. yet.), and therefore, will not be visiting ANY public venue. The driveway of my own home will be sufficient this evening as we light, and enjoy, our LEGAL fireworks, during the agreed upon hours.
Thank you for your neighborly consideration.

What Peyton does when mommy blogs...

Peyton has started this new "fun" trend of going to sleep all good and well in her crib.. then surprisingly waking up about 45 minutes later... crying..
All she wants is to cuddle!
Then I can't sleep.. so I come to the computer as it is like a siren, calling my name..
And it's cold down here.. a laptop would be nice.. then my fingers wouldn't get numb, and I could type, and spell things correctly on the first try..
But here she is.. asleep on the floor, with a pillow.. cause my arm fell asleep.. kinda cute.. her crazy hair and all..

Sweet!

Peyton's bedtime has been getting earlier this week..
I was posting last night, and came back upstairs to find Peyton, asleep next to daddy, while he was being chased by police, sirens, shooting, yelling, the works, and she was sleeping..
Too cute!

Events of the day..

So here's how the day went down..
Preschool.
Kindergarten.
Haircuts!!
I repaired some bracelets for my friend Alesha, earned a free cut, got a coupon for my B-Day, got one for half off.. nice..
Lynn was the first to get in "the hot seat".. she was quite nervous over her two inch trim.. she has hair to spare!!
Ash went next.. yup, that's "Alvin the Alligator" with her.. she is so "I don't care".. I had free reign to have what ever I wanted done with her hair! It is now even.. her last haircut, back in April, wasn't so even.. neither was mine.
Peyton found a new place to play..
My closet!
I now have pics of all three of them around this age enjoying my closet..
Me and my girls, kinda a shot of our new cuts.. I sorta already miss my inch of hair that is now in a trash can :(.. but Merrill likes it..
Now everyone is sleeping.. ahhh. let's hope it stays that way.. I need some!
Love Ashley's little laugh pic..
We went to Kaitlyn's Lakette family performance, they are going to regionals tomorrow. They did so good! It's always fun to have Grandma P. crack us up too.. afterward, as we were driving home, past the InstaCare, I looked, I am so sick of this ongoing cold. My throat started to hurt so bad during the last dance, I had to check out the InstaCare. TWO CARS.
I was going.
Good news, no wait.
Bad news, not so fav doc there.
Good news, he gave me a free sample of a steroid inhaler, I just don't need a prescription, the last time I used my inhaler, 2002, before I even got pregnant with Lynn.
No strep, but thank heavens he listened to me and didn't do a culture..
Just a nasty virus.
He gave me an antibiotic to help, he said that if it's gone on for this long, it might be the onset of something bad.
He kept asking me if there was anything else he could do. If I wanted any tests, if this was the outcome I had hoped for.
Gee... maybe he was bored?
He also told me to get rest, that's what I need to get better.
To which I replied, "Can you prescribe a sedative for my kids? " ;)
Hee hee..
Other good news, my insurance, get this, paid for my prescription.. granted it was only $4.. but hey, I'll take free any day!!
Maybe IHC heard it was my birthday this whole week :)
Now I am off to enjoy a nice bubble bath with some coconut lime gel that someone got me :)
Good luck tomorrow Katie!!

4 am..

No, not the song, but it eventually did get in my head..
I hear the glow worm going off.. it was playing Pachelbels Canon In D.. was I dreaming?
Peyton is in my arms.. how did she get here? I can't remember getting her out of her crib.. I must be so tired.
I hear Lynn say, "Rrreeerrrr!"
Catfight?
What time is it?
It's pitch dark..
Am I dreaming??
Ashley starts crying.. no, not just crying.. crying hysterically..
She's in my room, Lynn's on her heels.
Ashley comes to my side of the bed, Lynn goes to Merrill's.
"Mom, can you come help me pick up my stuffed animals and put them away?"
"What?.. Why?.."
"Lynn wants me to pick them up.."
"Tell Lynn to help you and go back to bed!"
They leave..
Lynn soon yells: "Pick them up and put them away RIGHT NOW!!!"
What time is it?!
Merrill gets up, remember, sleeping baby in my arms.. still don't know how she got there.
I carefully put her back in her bed.
He takes care of the other two, gets music on the CD player (yes, we still use on of those, quite regularly..) and the MP3 player for Lynn.
"What time is it?" I ask..
"3:38.."
"Are you going to be able to get back to sleep after all that?"
"I hope so.. I am so tired.."
He crashes.
My mind is still going..
Were they up playing for a while?
How did Peyton get in here?
How long have they been up?
Did Lynn wake up Ash? She has a bad habit of this, you see.. we have told her if she can't sleep, to come and wake US up..
Everyone is asleep, but me.
My mind is still going.
I went through composing a rough draft of this very post in my head, thinking, "by now it's gotta be 4 in the morning, and I am not asleep.."
Then the song started playing.. you know, Gwen Stefani's song, "4 in the morning"..
Yeah, that, playing in my head.
Doesn't exactly help with the falling asleep factor.
I was ready to come downstairs to the computer to write it up..
Then, I fell asleep.
At last!
But not for long..
Ash came and woke me up again..
"I'm scared.."
The only thing you need fear, is waking me up.. but I didn't tell her that.
It was 5 am then.. I had to use the bathroom..
That got me remembering: a year ago..
Pregnant..
Using the bathroom quite frequently at this point in the pregnancy last year.
Ahh.. remembering that.. Trying to re-live it..
Finally, back to sleep..
6 am..
Wake up call from Miss Peyton..
Fussing.
I get her, bring her back to bed..
Hoping to sleep more..
She sits up..
She's clapping.
I guess it's time to get up and play!

Three days...

So.. that cold that was in my house before Christmas.. the one I was avoiding so well.. I got it.
It hit me Saturday, and it hasn't been pretty.
Lynn got some variation of it, Ashley has it too, so we have been home bound for the last two days.
I am seriously not good for much. My head is quite foggy. I wish I could scrap!! But I know if I did, I'd just tear it all apart once I can see clearly again.. so I am behind in the 4 a week thing.. Let me enlighten you on what I have learned while being useless..
Snuggling up to my sweetie, always makes me feel better..
If I had broken that wish bone and come out victor, I would have wished that this would go away, never to return.. but really, Ash won, Lynn was broken hearted..
And the best way to spend a Monday, is playing..
I did get the house cleaned, re-acquainted myself with my hellacious non-sucking vacuum (just a week to go Mer ;)..).. got tons of laundry done, and managed to get a shower in before Merrill came home!
In Peyton's "I don't want to sleep unless you are holding me in a way that I can sleep but you can't" phase last night, I learned that watching Travel Channel's "Deep Fried Delights" and "Best Steakhouses" is a very bad idea.. can you say, hungry?
I ended-up taking Pey out for a drive after midnight, trying to get her to zonk.. it was short-lived. Let's hope it was a one night event :)
Sleeping with her on the couch, not so good.. she is a wild woman!! Yoga did't quite cure my back and neck today.

Giggles..

My cousin, Bonnie, made a comment that someday, Peyton would laugh at this... the probability that she left that comment while I was waiting for my camera battery to charge is huge.. so huge I put it in the boldest largest font possible.. but about that camera battery, Santa should have brought us a spare..
Anywhoo.. Peyton seems to think the situation is funny.. now. Don't ask how she reacts when the big ol' ball comes a rollin' out.. which the ballistophobia is the clostest to the fear of balls.. it was fear of flying objects such as bullets.. what the name for fear of clowns (shudder..)?

She thinks it is even funnier watching herself watching it and laughing at it while she's watching.. we could go on and on and on...
Meanwhile...
The church became just a bit more true today..
We moved from 1-4 block time to 9-12 ;) Truth abounds!!
It was quite a lovely day indeed. It could have been a little easier if Peyton had slept more than she fussed last night. 4 am came and suddenly, in her little world, it was "playtime". I was one tired momma.. 4 maybe almost five hours of sleep?..
Here's pics from today and yesterday... oh how I wish I'd had my camera with me yesterday night... Christie, you MUST re-create and post ;)
...good times...
On to pictures of the day(s)..
Yesterday:We do stress oral hygiene.. no halitosis, gingivitis, or cavities allowed.. start 'em young!!
And today:
Lately this is Lynn and Mer's favorite thing to do together.. their little quip to everything now is: "Oh.. that's awfully sweet of you, but I'd rather be KINGED!!"
So blessed to have such an awesome husband who lives to play with his kids...

10 months...

I almost forgot! How silly of me...
Peyton is 10 months old today! What a cutie she is...
Walking...
2 teeth...
Jibber-jabbering like no-body's business...
Putting toys away?! Really, she does. She also throws garbage away. If she's put something into her mouth that she shouldn't have, she will usually come to me and take it out and give it to me... smartie-pants...
She is also the busiest body ever, I think... it's near impossible to get her to hold still for a picture these days! This one was the best to post. I have many of her back, the top of her head as she tries to take a head dive off of the couch...
She has also figured-out how to move the chairs that we use to block the top of the stairs... she will find which ever one's legs aren't tangled within the other chair's legs, drag it with her while she crawls away, and then turns around to go through the gap... trouble!
Solid foods, and formula... these boobs have gone dry :(...
She has also picked-up the sleep through the night thing... probably thanks to the formula event... now if she'd only pass that "sleep through the night" memo on to Ashley...
Did I mention she likes to scream.. not like she's hurt or anything, the same thing her sisters do... just scream! She likes to announce our entrance many places we go...
Can't believe it has been 10 months already...

Monday in a nutshell..

Oh, Monday...
We started the day off with finishing Lynn's poster. She is the "Star Student" this week. We had fun putting together her poster. She freaked-out at me when I began sewing the gold paper onto the poster board. "Ms. Ashby is gonna be so mad at me! It's against the rules to sew paper..." She's wacky...
I love how she writes her name...
I spent the day taking down the whole tree, lights, ornaments, branches, everything.. well, except the first row of branches. You see, the very first string of lights we put up burned out. I un-did it all, and then spent the rest of my afternoon re-doing it, because I have A+ blood. I will have to do an Ally-inspired grand tour when I have my home all put together. It helped that it snowed today.. it was great until the battery in my Zen went dead and I couldn't find the charger...
We have been trying to do at least one Christmas activity a day. It has been something as simple as reading a Christmas book, or watching a Christmas movie together. Last week we watched "Elf".. "There's no singing at the North Pole!"... "Yes there is!!!"
For FHE we painted ornaments...
And Peyton made sure we didn't get paint anywhere that she could reach...
The girls loved painting. I got the ornaments at Michaels and the genius that I am, forgot to get more brushes, you know, so the WHOLE family could paint... thanks Brooke for picking up more while you were out :)
Merrill was cracking me up the whole time. He was acting like it was a contest. Telling Lynn to let him take credit for her ornament and saying that it looks like Michael J. Fox painted his... not so family home eveningish... it gets better...
Our little tradition is that he alters a Christmas tune or two.. this year, I think we are up to 13 or so...
Here's the finished ornaments. Ashley's has the most colors, layered on top of one another... Lynn's is mostly metallic colors, she loves shiny things... mine is the sock, and Mer's is the "JOY" that looks great! Don't you agree?
We finished the evening off with eating popcorn and brownies all while watching "Mr. Kruger's Christmas" (my brothers would appreciate that, especially Ken...) and the girls were sent off to bed.
Here I am... sleepless. Tired. But sleepless... this whole done nursing thing has me messed-up. I think the stress and worry of no calling isn't helping matters either. I have not had migraines or insomnia since I got pregnant with Lynn.. here I am now, with a headache for like the fourth or fifth day in a row. I haven't been able to sleep. I watched quite a few episodes of CSI on "On Demand" until 3 am this morning (well, yesterday now... here I am, not sleeping...) These hormones (or lack thereof) also have me in a B cup bra again... thank goodness it is a push-up from Victoria's Secret. It helps, a little. Too bad it can't give me the lift I really need.
I am looking forward to tomorrow... praying for a better attitude. I'll take whatever help I can get! Do you think if I asked, my C's would come back? ;)

Quick thanks...

Quick thanks goes out to my buddy Julie...
She suggested that I feed Pey the mixed rice cereal, to see if that would help with her sleep issue, which led to my lack of sleep issue.
I got it yesterday, she loved it, there was minimal gagging and no barfing. She slept till nearly 6 this morning.
Julie, do you have a solution for Lynn and Ash now? They won't sleep without the other one, and Lynn is seeing "pretend spiders" when she suddenly wakes up in the night. So... wonderful, omniscient Julie... can you help me with that one so I won't have two little girls sleeping on the floor next to my bed? Stuck listening to their prayers for the "pretend spiders" to go away...
Love ya!

MURPHY'S LAW...

Bragging...

So I guess this really isn't bragging per-say, but it is exciting to me!
Ashley slept through the night!!! I know, I should be more excited if say, Peyton slept through the night... but Ash should have been sleeping better than Peyton rather than the other way around. So last night I:
- gave Ash a bath with Peyton's nighttime bubble bath, you know, the one with lavender and chamomile...
- dosed her with some Motrin, cause maybe she hurts (?)
- dosed her with the nasty cherry Mucinex to help thin her mucus (again)
- elevated her head (again)
- had the humidifier running (still...)
- and of course we prayed (AGAIN...) that she would sleep, finally...
So either they all worked, or a combination worked... I have been praying that I would know, as her mother, what to do that would help her. So maybe it's all inspiration...
We had a birthday party for Hallie the other night. Cade was so cute to Ash. The two are usually like oil and water... Ash got a really bad attitude when we got to their house, and we told her to chill out, it's Cade's turf. But he was so sweet to her. He tried to take her by the hand, but of course, she backs away, then he motions for her with his little hand to come down stairs and play with him. I guess they had fun because we were talking about going to Levi's party tonight and the girls were asking who would be there. So I run through the list: Grammy and Grandpa, Hallie and Sophie... Ash jumps in, "And Cade!!! He's my buddy."
So maybe they'll be friends sooner rather than later Jacks!
Oh, and Peyton has four swimsuits because her grandma and grandpa have a pool, and we live at the pool when it's summertime... yep, you'll see those pics too, someday! I don't even want to count how many swimsuits the other two have... or me and Mer...

Freddy the Frog

Ohhhh Summertime! Today really felt like it, compared to some recent days. I used some of my more recent purchases. I got the buttons from Target today, and I got the felt flowers and buttons from Heartland during last week's excursion.
My day began a t 2:29 am. I woke up during a crazy dream about scrapbooking and politics, specifically colors of cardstock and how they related to Hilary Clinton, Barak Obama, and John McCain. Mike Huckabee was not really a prominent figure in my dream... as in real life... So I woke up thinking, "that was weird", and then realizing why I woke up. Something had caused me some discomfort. I laid there for a few minutes, well, about 5 to be exact... and there was another hard Braxton Hicks. I began timing. They came 5-6 minutes apart and lasted about 2 minutes each. This is just a re-run of one of my last nights being pregnant with Ashley. Nothing happened then either. It was a little uncomfortable, but worse was Peyton, being an absolute wild woman between them. I ended-up going downstairs to watch something... nothing is really on at 3 am... (John and Kate got their little boys potty-trained... there is this crazy ladder that you can crank and move while you are standing on it... the early morning news people aren't nearly as attractive as the morning anchors... see, nothing.) I sat there, on my towel, trying to doze with Peyton break-dancing every 6 minutes or so. I was trying to be reasonable while I was tired and trying to decide what to do. I decided to wait until something really happened, i.e. water-breaking, or real contractions, or pain... so I am tired today.
Mom and I went to Target and walked all over. I found lots of yummy treats to eat! I got some super cute dish towels, which I should really go and get some for Jaclyn, all I need to say is cupcakes... Mom got the girls a prize, more Princess Polly pockets ( I hate them almost as much as Mer does) for when Peyton comes, and Grammy babysits... they keep telling Peyton to come now. They want those dolls! We went to the mall after, not to shop, to walk. My feet hurt and are swollen a little more, but nothing else.
Now Merrill has gone to a concert "Armor For Sleep" (listen to "My Town", I like 'em)... at the request of his two cute little sisters. (I had to remind Mer to not throw his panties at the band...) So I am here with the girls, debating as to whether I should hop on the treadmill and see if he can get here in time. Quiet night at home, with whatever I want for dinner...
Lynn went to pre-school again today. She got to bring home "Freddy the Frog". We are supposed to document everything that Freddy does with us for the next day, well, and today too. He ribbits, "Are you sleeping", and let me tell you, I can't get enough of it!!! She is happy, so excited, so I guess that I am too. Soon, I'll have pre-school homework to do. I got a calendar for the month. Thursday is her Valentine's party.
Maybe Freddy will visit Labor and Delivery with us!
